Using Shopz, you will be able to order eligible products in a Product ServerPac in the same manner as for regular ServerPac. Shopz will have a new triangle icon to indicate which products in the ServerPac catalog are eligible for a Product ServerPac. A Product ServerPac has the same characteristics as a regular ServerPac. IBM installs the product or product set when manufacturing your order and delivers the target and distribution libraries with service integrated (applied and accepted) to the latest RSU level and with HIPER and PRP service applied, and the SMP/E environment with a single GLOBAL zone and the minimum number of TARGET and DLIB zones required. By default, for the z/OS SREL, IBM delivers WebSphere® products in their own zone pair, IBM Installation Manager installed products in their own zone pair, and the rest of the products in a separate zone pair. The intent is for you to manage the products you ordered as a product set in the delivered SMP/E environment.

02 Oct 2005 - z/OS Service Enhancements

z/OS service enhancements
IBM has recently enhanced electronic service delivery capabilities through the introduction of SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval and improvements to Shopz. These changes will simplify and automate the tasks previously performed with ESO and Service-Only CBPDO. As IBM continues to leverage new function and technology that supports an on-demand environment, you will need to exploit these new capabilities.
SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval simplifies the acquisition of z/OS service. It also eliminates the complexity of managing a mountain of service tapes and the delays in shipping them to you. The automation available with SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval means you are able to obtain the right service at the right time.
IBM will continue to emphasize electronic rather than physical delivery of service and will continue to simplify the ordering, delivery and installation of z/OS service. To reduce the number of ordering interfaces and help assure timely delivery of new function, some older service delivery options are being simplified or discontinued:

  • Effective January 15, 2006, as previously announced in Software Announcement 205-034, dated February 15, 2005, the S/390 Service Update Facility (SUF) will be discontinued.
  • Effective March 2006, as previously announced in Software Announcement 205-167, dated July 26, 2005, new ESO and CBPDO (5751-CS8 and 5775-MVS) physical delivery subscriptions will not be accepted.
  • Effective June 2006, as previously announced in Software Announcement 205-167, dated July 26, 2005, CBPDO product orders will include service only for the products included in the order. Formerly, CBPDO product orders included service for other products licensed under the same customer number within the same SREL. To get service for other products, you can use SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, Shopz, or a fee service offering.
  • Effective June 2006, as previously announced in Software Announcement 205-167, dated July 26, 2005, Service-Only CBPDO (5751-CS3) orders will no longer be accepted. An improved option for ordering service by SREL, or for all licensed products under the same customer number, will continue to be supported in Shopz. You can also get service based on what you have installed using SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, Shopz, or selected fee offerings. Note that CBPDO product orders are not affected by this change.
  • Effective September 2006, as previously announced in Software Announcement 205-167, dated July 26, 2005, existing ESO and CBPDO physical delivery subscriptions will be discontinued. You can use a job scheduling system and SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval to get service at any interval you find convenient, or use the Internet delivery subscription option available in Shopz

To assist you with migration, the following list will help you identify which of the new options best meets your needs:

  • An electronic delivery replacement of an ESO or Service Only CBPDO physical subscription can be accomplished by using an SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval batch job to run at whatever frequency you need (nightly, weekly, etc). This will ensure you have the latest service available, based on your SMP/E installed inventory.
  • Shopz can also be used as a replacement of a physical subscription by selecting the Internet delivery subscription option. Using this option you can select which months and SRELS for which to receive service. Alternatively, within your Shopz profile you can select email notification of new monthly service levels. The email will serve as a reminder to place an individual service order. You can use any service acquisition tool to place your preferred type of order.
  • To obtain service for all licensed products in the same SREL at the time that you order new products, you will have to place a separate service order using Shopz. However, if you use a job scheduler, you can automate service acquisition using SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, so a subsequent service order would not be necessary.
  • A replacement for the service-only CBPDO option can be accomplished by selecting the 'service for all licensed products in one or more SRELs (new and improved)' option in Shopz. Alternatively, you could use an installed service inventory to tailor your service order using SMP/E Internet Service Retrieval, Shopz, or one of the following fee service offerings:
    • US - SoftwareXcel, Resolve
    • Europe/Middle East/Africa - Enhanced Technical Support
    • Canada - SupportLine
    • Latin America - SupportLine
    • Asia Pacific/South - SupportLine
